How To Raise Up Your Monitor Stands

Nov 14, 2022

This may be a very specific problem, but it you are like me and you want to raise up your existing monitor stands or maybe raise them off your desk and add a little weight to help decouple them from your floor or desk, than this article is for you!

I knew I needed to raise my new monitors up to get the ideal height of the speakers to face my ear height. To do this I knew I needed 8" to get them where I wanted them to be. The good news is that concrete blocks are usually 8" tall! Let's go over the steps below.

  1. Buy 8" by 6" garden concrete blocks at a store like home depot. Cinder blocks could work too.
  2. Buy a sheet of 1/8" 2'x4' Tempered Hardboard for the top and bottom of your blocks.
  3. Cut out 8"x6" footers and toppers of the hardboard for your blocks from the tempered hardboard
  4. Buy industrial strength velcro and a yard of black fabric. (I did it on amazon)
  5. Cut out rectangles of the fabric to wrap your blocks. A 24"x 22" rectangle will entirely wrap one 8"x 6" block.
  6. Wrap the black fabric around your block and attach the loose ends to the industrial strength velcro.
  7. Carefully lift your speakers and stands on top of the blocks
  8. Adjust the speaker stands and blocks to your ideal locations.

There you have it! Not super hard, but a nice way to add some weight to your speaker stands while raising them up. You can add some Sorbothane sheets to help with reducing vibrations as well (again amazon is your friend here)
