What is Sonarworks?
Sonarworks is a room correction software that adjusts your speakers EQ curve to create a more flat response. The software uses a specific mic that tests the sound of the speakers in your room and then adjusts for peaks and nulls in the frequency spectrum.
Does it help with mixing?
Yes, I have found that my mixes translate way better from my studio to the car and other speakers when I use Sonarworks. I used to go back and forth many times after finishing a mix and now I simply listen back and usually don't change anything before sending it to the client.
Why would I use Sonarworks over other room correction software?
I like sonarworks, well... honestly because it is affordable. I have heard of other room correction software or even hardware that can cost thousands of dollars where Sonarworks is only a couple of hundred.
Should I use room correction software?
Yes, even with a fully acoustically treated room you still will have some issues. I look at room correction software as the cherry on top to a well treated studio. First put in all of your acoustic treatment and then adjust the speakers so that you get the best possible flat response in your room. Then when you listen to your mixes on other devices it will translate perfectly.
